Our Standards are based on the Kansas State Standards for Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades.Higher grade level standards are utilized for differentiation based on individual student needs.
Our Language Arts Curriculum consists of a Book of the Week, which utilizes sets of literature books to motivate your child to learn their reading readiness skills, an adopted reading curriculum- Treasures McMillan/McGraw-Hill focusing on vocabulary, sequencing, and comprehension, and the Animated Literacy Program which teaches phonics and phonemic awareness through characters, songs, and actions. We focus on phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. This is accomplished by focusing on appropriate grade level standards. Students who are ready then advance into readers that are on their instructional, academic level and incorporate writing, language arts, and comprehension activities.
Our Mathematics Curriculum allows for a “hands on” approach to math using Investigations, Math Every Day, manipulatives, and paper and pencil activities. We will be learning how to problem solve and apply math to real life situations. We will be focusing on learning the state math standards with particular emphasis on number sense, identifying numbers, colors, shapes, patterns, counting, measuring, time, money, weight, capacity, volume, fractions, adding, and subtracting sets. Higher order thinking skills and application of math concepts is the goal.
Our Supplemental Curriculums include Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, Music, Computer Education, Smart Board Technology, Physical Education (with fine and gross motor skill development), Social Development, and Language Development with a Spanish Enrichment program. The instructional models used to facilitate these concepts are whole group lessons, small group activities, partner activities, academic centers, free choice centers, and outdoor activities. All curricular learning activities are integrated to provide more meaningful experiences for the students.
Our Snacks and Lunches are very healthy and meet Kansas Nutrition Guidelines. Snacks are provided by the school, and lunches are catered in. Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students receive morning and afternoon snacks and lunch. This is included in the cost of tuition. (If first and second grade students choose to bring their own sack lunch there is a $15 weekly tuition reduction.)
Our Summer Enrichment Program is a fun, challenging, extension of our school year program. We provide educational opportunities for our students to continue their educational journey during the summer without academic regression. We include weekly fieldtrips or academic presentations that integrate with our educational themes in order to supplement our curricular program and provide more hands on opportunities for the students.
